The Ministry of Public Health stated in a statement that it is “closely following, in coordination with the World Health Organization office in Lebanon, developments related to the recently recorded cases of the Hanta virus on a limited basis in some regions around the world.” She said: “Hantavirus is considered a rare disease that is transmitted primarily through exposure to secretions of infected rodents, including urine, feces, or saliva, especially through inhalation of air particles contaminated with these secretions, especially in enclosed spaces or that lack ventilation. The possibility of transmitting the virus from one person to another remains limited and rare and requires close and prolonged contact. The Ministry confirms, based on the assessment of the World Health Organization, that the current situation does not constitute a health emergency, and that the organization Epidemiological surveillance and risk assessment continue, with the level of risk considered low to date. The past years have witnessed a limited number of outbreaks of the Hanta virus, all of which were contained by strengthening epidemiological surveillance and taking appropriate preventive and response measures, without any cases being recorded in Lebanon. She concluded: “Finally, the Ministry of Public Health stresses the importance of obtaining information from official sources and avoiding the circulation of rumours.”
